چکیده

We calculate the unseen-but-true GRB-event rate from a current flux-limited sample of 33 GRBs with individually measured redshifts. We consider a GRBevent rate which is proportional to the star-formation rate, in view of the GRBSNe association in SN1998bw and GRB030329. By fitting a log-normal distribution of GRB peak-luminosities, we find a ratio 1/fr ≃ 450 for the true-to-observed GRB-event rates. This provides an independent derivation of the GRB-beaming factor 1/fb ≃ 500 obtained by Frail et al. (2001) from sources with standard GRB-energies. We discuss applications to GRB980425. Identification of two categories of optically bright γ-ray bursts with universal optical afterglows

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are believed to be the brightest electromagnetic explosions in the universe after the identification of their cosmic origin. These erratic, transient events in γ-rays are followed by long-lived, decaying afterglows in longer wavelengths. It has been well known that without correction for the jet beaming effect, the isotropic γ-ray luminosities vary for 4 orders of magnit...

Luminosities, Space Densities. and Redshift Distributions of Gamma-Ray Bursts

We use the BD2 sample.of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) based on 5.9 years of BATSE DISCLA data with a variety of models of the luminosity function to derive characteristic GRB luminosities, space densities and redshift distributions. Previously published results for an open universe and modest density evolution of the GRBs showed characteristic peak luminosities around 5 x 1051 ergs s-l in the 50 300...

Short versus Long Gamma–Ray Bursts: spectra, energetics, and luminosities

We compare the spectral properties of 79 short and 79 long Gamma–Ray Bursts (GRBs) detected by BATSE and selected with the same limiting peak flux. Short GRBs have a low–energy spectral component harder and a peak energy slightly higher than long GRBs, but no difference is found when comparing short GRB spectra with those of the first 1–2 sec emission of long GRBs. These results confirm earlier...

Fast X-ray Transients and Gamma-ray Bursts: Constraints on Beaming

The detection of x-ray afterglows of gamma-ray burst (GRB) sources has enabled the optical discovery that GRBs are at cosmological distances, which confirms that the enormous luminosities required must produce a relativistically expanding fireball. It is not yet clear if this expansion is quasi-spherical or beamed, or if the beaming differs between the prompt GRB and afterglow, although the dif...

Correlation between the Peak Spectral Energy of Gamma-Ray Bursts and the Peak Luminosity of the Underlying Supernovae: Implication for the Nature of GRB-SN Connection

In this paper we present a correlation between the peak spectral energy of gammaray bursts (GRBs) and the peak bolometric luminosity of the underlying supernovae (SNe), based on a sample of four pairs of GRBs-SNe with spectroscopically confirmed connection. Combining it with the well-known relation between the peak spectral energy and the isotropic equivalent energy of GRBs, we obtain an upper ...
